Reena Virk’s murder spread like wildfire in the streets of Canada. What happened on the night of November 1997 was disturbing and shocking.
Reena Virk was a 14-year-old teenage girl who lived in Saanich, British Columbia. She originally belonged to Hinduism, later her family converted to Christianity.
Reena did not share good relations with her family and often spent most of her time with her teenage friend’s group including Nicole Cook. The kids in the group also spread rumours about each other.
Reena was invited to a party by her friends. Earlier Reena avoided going to the party as she sensed the mess she created by spreading rumours about Nicole Cook. But then she finally went to the party.
On the night of November 1997, Nicole and Reena got into a heated argument. Nicole was angry that Reena was spreading fake rumours about Nicole’s fake breast implants and AIDS. This led to the matter getting tense between them.
A group of girls beat Reena and harassed her. Reena tried to run from the location. Kelly Ellard (Nicole’s friend) along with Warren Glowastski (another boy from their group) followed Reena as she tried to leave. Kelly then attacked Reena and held her underwater until she died.
Reena’s body was found after 8 days on 22nd November 1997, of her actual death.
Since Warren Glowatski was present at the murder location and did not do anything to save Reena, he was charged with a second-degree murder case.
Warren Glowatski was then sentenced to life. After seven years, he was finally released in 2010 on parole.
